    KITTERY POINT, Maine - Sherman Francis "Jason" Raynes, 84, of Auburn, Maine, a former long-time resident of Kittery Point, died on Nov. 11, 2005 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
    Born in Kittery Point, Maine on Aug. 17, 1921, he was a son of Sherman and Emma (Randall) Raynes, and attended local schools.
    He was raised in Kittery Point and his early years were spent as a lobster fisherman and caretaker for the Thaxter and Brewster families and later worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a painter.
    He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Raynes, of Kittery, and a son, Jason Rynes, and his wife, Susie of Slidell, La., and their children John, Diana and David; a step-daughter, Maureen Rizer McLaughlin, of Manchester, N.H., and her daughter, Catherine Gray and her husband, John; great grandchildren Jaden Raynes and Leah and Kayla Gray; sisters Shirley Raynes of Kittery and Bertha "Betty" Philbrook of Kittery Point; and a brother, Lester Raynes and his wife, Mildred, of Kittery Point; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his first grandchild, Dean Raynes, his wife, Mary (Flaherty) Raynes, brothers Wesley Raynes and Clayton Raynes and his first wife, Berth Raynes.
    WE REMEMBER: He continued his love of gardening throughout his life. In later years he also spent many happy times with his loving granddaughter Katie. Mr. Raynes served his country as a member of the United States Army.
    SERVICES: Services will be private at the families request. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

    Born in Kittery Point, Maine on Aug. 17, 1921, he was a son of Sherman and Emma (Randall) Raynes, and attended local schools.
    He was raised in Kittery Point and his early years were spent as a lobster fisherman and caretaker for the Thaxter and Brewster families and later worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a painter.
    He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Raynes, of Kittery, and a son, Jason Rynes, and his wife, Susie of Slidell, La., and their children John, Diana and David; a step-daughter, Maureen Rizer McLaughlin, of Manchester, N.H., and her daughter, Catherine Gray and her husband, John; great grandchildren Jaden Raynes and Leah and Kayla Gray; sisters Shirley Raynes of Kittery and Bertha "Betty" Philbrook of Kittery Point; and a brother, Lester Raynes and his wife, Mildred, of Kittery Point; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his first grandchild, Dean Raynes, his wife, Mary (Flaherty) Raynes, brothers Wesley Raynes and Clayton Raynes and his first wife, Berth Raynes.
    WE REMEMBER: He continued his love of gardening throughout his life. In later years he also spent many happy times with his loving granddaughter Katie. Mr. Raynes served his country as a member of the United States Army.

    KITTERY POINT, Maine - Sherman Francis "Jason" Raynes, 84, of Auburn, Maine, a former long-time resident of Kittery Point, died on Nov. 11, 2005 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
    Born in Kittery Point, Maine on Aug. 17, 1921, he was a son of Sherman and Emma (Randall) Raynes, and attended local schools.
    He was raised in Kittery Point and his early years were spent as a lobster fisherman and caretaker for the Thaxter and Brewster families and later worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a painter.
    He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Raynes, of Kittery, and a son, Jason Rynes, and his wife, Susie of Slidell, La., and their children John, Diana and David; a step-daughter, Maureen Rizer McLaughlin, of Manchester, N.H., and her daughter, Catherine Gray and her husband, John; great grandchildren Jaden Raynes and Leah and Kayla Gray; sisters Shirley Raynes of Kittery and Bertha "Betty" Philbrook of Kittery Point; and a brother, Lester Raynes and his wife, Mildred, of Kittery Point; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his first grandchild, Dean Raynes, his wife, Mary (Flaherty) Raynes, brothers Wesley Raynes and Clayton Raynes and his first wife, Berth Raynes.
    WE REMEMBER: He continued his love of gardening throughout his life. In later years he also spent many happy times with his loving granddaughter Katie. Mr. Raynes served his country as a member of the United States Army.
    SERVICES: Services will be private at the families request. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.
