[S602] Obit: Samuel Jackson Teets, Samuel Jackson Teets, aged 89, of the Swallow Falls section, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Theresa Ellen Friend, McHenry, on Thursday morning, October 18 [1951]. Deceased was born August 5, 1862, at Cranesville, W. Va. and had lived in the Swallow Falls section most of his life. He was a son of the late Samuel Jackson and Betty Hawk Teets. His wife died two years ago. Surviving are one son, Charlie Teets, rout 1, Oakland; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Etta Friend, route 1, Oakland; Mrs. Martha Alice Sines, route 2, Oakland; and Mrs. Theresa Ellen Friend, McHenry. Funeral services were conducted at the Pine Grove Church of the Brethren, Rev. Walter Spiker officiating. Interment in the Henry Sines Cemetery.

Harrison "Harry" Teets was born on 12 February 1821 in Preston, Virginia.^{3,4,5,6,7,8,9} He was the son of Michael Teets Jr. and Mary Margaret (Elizabeth) Miller.² Harrison "Harry" Teets married Sabrah "Sabie/Saby" Wolfe in 1841.¹⁰ Harrison "Harry" Teets married Amelia Wolfe on 28 September 1884 in Garrett, Maryland; Marriage notes taken from the Garrett County, Maryland "Marriages of T - (1872-1866) Records". The spelling of Teets was interchangeable at this time with Teats. The Teets History states that "after the death of his first wife, Harrison married his sister-in-law." The marriage listings state that she was a widow.¹⁰ Harrison "Harry" Teets died on 18 September 1898 in Preston, Virginia, at age 77.^1,11,4,3 He was buried after 18 September 1898 in Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery (or Valley Point Cemetery?), Valley Point, Preston, West Virginia.^4,3

They are a distinguished Flemish family and Captain Edmond du Chastel de Blangerval came to Philadelphia, PA on Sept. 10, 1683.
Then Captain Edmund du Chastel de Blangerval married Christian Boude/Boone in 1693.
She was the daughter of a Swedish immigrant. Edmond Chastel and Christian began Edmund Casteel, II.
They moved from Philadelphia, PA to Piscataway Creek in Prince George’s County, MD.
Edmund Casteel, II married Johanna and they begat Edmund Casteel, III of Casteel Plantation, Piscataway Parish.
Edmund Casteel, III married Rebecca and they begat Shadrack Casteel.
Shadrack Casteel married Laurena and they begat Thomas Casteel born 1750
Thomas Casteel was one of the pioneer settlers of what is now Garrett County, Maryland.
Thomas Casteel married Sarah Ann.
Thomas and Sarah Casteel begat Shadrack Casteel in 1780.
Thomas Casteel the pioneer and his wife are probably buried in the old hall graveyard on “Blooming Rose” tract near the Friend settlement
probably in Friendsville, MD (Garrett County). That is now called the Thomas Fike farm.

Thomas served in the Third Regiment Potomac Home Brigade Infantry from May 1, 1862 to may 29, 1865. This came from “History and Roster, Maryland Volunteers of 1861-1865” Volume 1. Library of Congress #87-082301. Originally published in 1898 in Baltimore, MD and reprinted in 1987 by Family Line Publications. Thomas Casteel is on page 584.
Then Thomas Casteel b. 1845 m. Susan Casteel and they begat Molly Mae Casteel. Thomas and Susan Casteel had 10 children.
Then Molly Mae Casteel married David H. Thomas in July 1907 and they begat Evelyn A. Thomas b. May 15, 1909 and she was their 2nd child
Molly Mae Casteel and David H. Thomas had 7 children and they were my great grandparents on my dad’s mothers side. Molly Mae Casteel Thomas died in 1946.

Evelyn died 1998. Bernadine died 1965. Jack died 1992 (their 1st child). Loralli died 2004 (their 5th child). Larry died 2007 (their 3rd child).

[S612] Obit: Delpha Lester Teets, from Burley Johnson, November 2005, Delpha Lester Teets, aged 59 years and three weeks, was born May 27, 1889 and died June 21, 1948, death occuring suddenly beneath a pile of falling lummber. He was a son of Harrison and Virginia Teets, of Hazelton, W. Va., who preceded him in death. He was married April 1909 to Katherine Savage who died sixteen years ago [c1932]. To this union were born seven children, and all but one survive: Reid and Oliver of Friendsville; Thelma, Uniontown, Pa.; Vesta Riley, Grace Thomas and Stella Friend, also Friendsville. Leslie Earl died in infancy. Brothers and sisters Bert Teets, May Casteel, Blanche Uphold, Hazelton, W. Va.; William Teets of Morgantown, W. Va.; Effie Uphold, Friendsville; Minnie Schroyer, Jeannette, Pa.; Daisy Schultz, Ault, Colorado; Dessie Cheney, Holyoke, Colorado; and Nellie Liggett of Sterling, Colorado. On June 3 [1948] he was united in marriage to Mrs. Martha Uphold, who also survives. Funeral services from the White Rock Church of God, southeast of Friendsville on June 23, Rev. Harrison Teets married Florence Ellen Guthrie, daughter of Christian Guthrie and Almyra Smith, on 8 December 1870 in Preston, West Virginia.¹⁰ Harrison Teets married Mary Martha Virginia "Jennie" DeBerry, daughter of James Deberry and Louise Fredlock, on 20 May 1888 in at the home of James DeBerry, Hazelton Area, Preston, West Virginia.^11,12 Harrison Teets died on 12 April 1928 in Preston, West Virginia, at age 79.^1,13,2,9,8

He was buried on 15 April 1928 in Parnell Cemetery, Cuzzart/Hazelton, Preston, West Virginia.^14,1,15

When his elder brothers went to war (Civil War), Harrison was 13, but immediately became the "eldest son"...left at home and he became a man ahead of his years. As a youth he was not only a hard working boy, but a lively one. An excellent fiddler, he played for community barn dances in those days, usually with one or two fiddlers, with a repertoire of tunes such as "Turkey in the Straw", "Pop goes the Weasel", "Rosewood Casket", and "Tennessee Waltz".¹⁶

[S1773] Obit: Rhuea (Teets) Hartman, Mrs. Rhuea Hartman, 77, of Seanor, Som.Co., Pa., died at 6 o'clock Sunday morning following an extended illness. She was born Sept. 25, 1867, in West Virginia, a daughter of Henry and Matilda Teets Hardesty. She is survived by her husband, Sanford J. Hartman, and six children-- Mrs. Blanche Bartic, Detroit, Mich.; William H., Maryland; Staley, West Va.; Arbanes,Friedens; Junior, Rockwood, and Mrs. Mary Shaffer, Central City. She was a sister of Arbanes Hardesty, West Va. and of Mrs. Effie Miller, Reedville, W.Va. Services held in Kingdom Hall, Hollsopple. Burial in the Custer Cemetery under the directions of Shank Funeral Home, Scalp Level. Friends are being received in the Hartman residence, Seanor. Source: Tues. Teets, daughter of John Marshall Teets and Elizabeth Sisler, on 15 July 1858 in Preston, West Virginia.⁶ Henry H. Hardesty died on 22 March 1911 at age 75.¹
