Albert J. Novak Obituary
Albert J. Novak, 72, of Hanover, Pa., entered into God's eternal care on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, in Hanover Hospital. Last week, we lost a good one. Born May 27, 1941, in Dunbar, he was the devoted son of Rose (Gambone) Novak and the late Joseph Novak. Albert was the loving husband of Carol (Quinn) Novak, with whom he enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Albert was a 1963 graduate of West Virginia University. He was vice president of Farm Credit Bank of Baltimore and retired after 32 years of service. Albert was a proud member of the Amici D'Italia of Hanover. Albert's love of family and friends was unparalleled. He was a legendary storyteller, expert gardener, champion bocce ball player and avid woodworker. If you were smart enough to stop by, you were likely to leave with some of his tasty homegrown tomatoes or a jar of some of his delicious "Futz Stuff" homemade jelly and at least one "ole Futz" quote to share with friends. He was known far and wide for his epic pig roasts, and was happy to cook on his Green Egg for anyone who asked. Needless to say, he was treasured and beloved by his family and community of friends. In addition to his mother and wife, Albert is survived by four children, Patrick J. Novak and wife, Lori, of Hartsville, S.C., Susan Novak Cumberworth and husband, Craig, of Connellsville, Paul A. Novak and wife, Jennifer, of Baltimore, Md., and James M. Novak, of Gaithersburg, Md.; four grandchildren, Erin Harvey, Slade A. Harvey, Ty Novak and Olivia Novak; two granddogs, Frank and Sugar; and three sisters, Maryann Novak, of Irwin, Jane Laurion and husband, Dan, and Rita Martin and husband, Dennis, all of Dunbar. He was preceded in death by his sister, Paulette Kurcina; and his loyal canine companions, O.C., Aspen and Ellie. Albert also took pleasure in his many nieces, nephews and extended family, whom he adored. Following cremation, a service to celebrate and remember Albert's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the KENWORTHY FUNERAL HOME INC., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, with the Rev. Jeanette D. Leisk officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation, PBC, 39 Broadway, Suite 2700, New York, NY 10006, the American Heart Association , 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603, or the American Cancer Society , 924 N. Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403. The Kenworthy Funeral Home Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, has been entrusted by the family with the funeral arrangements. Memories and condolences may be shared at http://www.kenworthyfh.com.
