Mary (?)1

F, b. before 1760
ChartsHenry Teets, b. b1760 Indented Descendant Chart
Mary (?) was born before 1760; she most likely would not have been born in the Monongalia or Preston County area, based upon the 1800 census from Allegany County, Maryland. Given that census and that Henry and Mary were perhaps 18-19 years old at marriage at the earliest, that woiuld place both Henry and mary's marriage date to c1778, and their birth dates to c1760 or earlier. No credible source is yet available to substantiate or deny such claims. Birth location unknown.2 She married Henry Teets circa 1778.2,1,3

She was probably the female age 26 to 44 listed in the household of her husband, Henry Teats, in the 1800 Federal Census of Sandy Creek, Allegany, Maryland.2

Henry Teets Jr.1

M, b. circa 1785, d. after 1849
RelationshipSon of Henry Teets
ChartsHenry Teets, b. b1760 Indented Descendant Chart
Henry Teets Jr. was born circa 1785; he appeared three times in the Tax Records for Monongalia County, Virginia; in 1805, 1806, and 1813 (see Henry Jr. in those years with a light blue background in the Teets in Tax Records). His father Henry and several of his brothers also appeared in these records for that time period, and for many years thereafter.

This Henry Teets has not been found by the name Henry (or George) in any federal census. Because of this disappearance from both the Tax Records and the census records, it is believed that this Henry Teets may have left the Monongalia/Preston County area, perhaps in shame or withdrawl because of his court sentence and resulting jail term.

He was accused of stealing a black horse from Fredrick Willhelm per Monongalia Court Records on April 21, 1808 (see attached). Testifying in the court proceedings were Henry Teets (Sr.), Adam Teets, and Mary Teets. Note that these witnesses on his behalf further support the idea that Henry Jr. was the son of Henry and Mary Teets, and that Adam was his brother. In May 1808, the Monongalia County Courts sentenced Henry Jr. to five years in prison for stealing a horse. This explains his absence from the Tax Records during that time between 1808 and 1813.

It is not uncommon that the first born male in colonial times is named after the father. In the 1800 census there are 2 males between 10 and 15. That age in the census for 1800 can support Henry Jr.’s birth date, and that he is the first born son. Birth date estimated to be c1785, but his birth location is unknown.1,3 He was the son of Henry Teets and Mary (?)1,2 Henry Teets Jr. married Unknown (?) between 1805 and 1808 in Monongalia (now Preston) Monongalia (now Preston), Virginia; he appears ain the Monongalia Tax Records in 1805 and 1806, and his court records show that he was married at that itme, but his wife's name is not yet known.4 Henry Teets Jr. died after 1849 in Preston, Virginia; according to the Tax Records for Monongalia and Preston Counties.1

"A mulatto told him that Henry TEETS swapped for the horse said to be stolen." HUNT said he believe the horse to be the property of WILLHELM because of the markings and he said TEETS confessed to him that he stole the horse. CUPP said "the same day the horse was stolen, he was at Geneve with whiskey. The same evening the wife of the prisoner came to his house and the next morning the horse was missing and after hunting they found a yoke. He says the prisoner cofessed he had the horse and got him from one Jno MACKLEY but did not say how he came by him and that the prisoner was in the neighborhood at the time the horse was stolen." Amos ROBBARTS was justice and James METHENY was constable.

In May 1808, Henry Jr. is sentenced to five (5) years in prison.

David Teets1

M, b. circa 1799
RelationshipSon of Henry Teets
ChartsHenry Teets, b. b1760 Indented Descendant Chart
David Teets was born circa 1799; he appeared many times in the Preston County Tax Records between 1822 and 1840. His father Henry and several of his brothers also appeared in these records (see Teets in Tax Records).

David first appears in the Tax Records of Preston County in 1822, and again in 1830, 1833-34, 1838, and 1840. He seems to appear in the 1800, 1810, 1820, and 1830 census records with his parents Henry and Mary. The calculated combine birth range across those three census records indicates that he was born between 1795-1799. It should be noted that in the 1830 census for David Teats, there is a male and a female between the ages of 60-69, which matches up perfectly with the ages of his parents. It is quite possible, even likely, that these two people could be Henry and Mary living with their youngest son.

David's birth date is calculated to be c1799, but his birth location is not known. Given that Henry moved his family to Monongalia (aka Preston) county before 1802, it is possible that David was born there.2,3,4,5,1 He was the son of Henry Teets and Mary (?)1
