Ruth Evans Teets Ruth Evans Teets, 89, of Terra Alta, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at The Villages Hospital in Lady Lake Florida with her son at her side after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born October 23, 1921, in Terra Alta, WV daughter of the late E.S. and Emma (Thomas) Evans. She graduated from Terra Alta High School and attended West Virginia University until her marriage to Clem Teets on June 15, 1941. Her working career began at age 13 in her Dad's businesses, and she was active in a myriad of local, state and national business related organizations as well as many civic activities. She assisted Clem in starting and successfully operating several businesses, among which were Clem Teets Oil Co., Inc., Parts Warehouse, Inc., Bridgeport Stockyards, Inc., and Clem Teets Farm Supply. Ruth was a loving Mother as well as a supportive wife and she spent many years traipsing after her sons as they exhibited Angus cattle at various fairs and festivals. Once her children left home, she and Clem established the Americana Museum which she continued to open and share with the community until 2006. She delighted in twisting the handle on the large Spanish disc player and playing the pump organ for visitors. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Terra Alta. She sang in the church choir for 70 plus years, served in various church offices, boards and committees. She was a Sunday school teacher and longtime member of the adult Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, the Wesleyan Service Guild and the United Methodist Women. Nothing pleased her more than hosting church picnics and “sings” at the old church on the museum grounds. Ruth was initiated into Terra Alta Chapter #63 Order of Eastern Star on May 5, 1943, receiving her 50 year pin in 1993. During her years of membership she served in all of the various chairs (offices) and served as Grand Treasurer of the Grand Chapter OES of West Virginia from 1976 thru 1987. She was then named Grand Treasurer Emeritus of the WV Grand Chapter. She spent many enjoyable hours traveling with and visiting her OES brothers and sisters throughout the County and State. Ruth was a charter member and lot owner of Mountaintop Vacationland, now Alpine Lake, where she served on the Board. She also was a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Terra Alta, a long time member of the Terra Alta Civic Club and the Terra Alta Community Ambulance Service serving as Treasurer of both organizations. She was also a member of the Terra Alta Community Choir for many years. She was survived by her twin sister, Fay Cooper of Latrobe, PA; two sons, Jim and wife Sandy of Terra Alta and Lady Lake, FL. and Bob of Elizabethtown, KY.; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nephews and two nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, her husband Clem, and two sisters, Sue Gebhart and Jean Yester. Family and friends may call at Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday, Jan. 10 and at the First United Methodist Church in Terra Alta on Tuesday Jan. 11 from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service with the Rev. Michael Daniels officiating. Interment will follow at the Terra Alta Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made in Ruth's memory to the Terra Alta Food Pantry c/o Betty Smith, 104 Sanders Street, Terra Alta, WV 26764, or The Alzheimer's Family Organization, P. O. Box 1939, New Port Richey, FL 34656-1939. Condolences: www.arthurwrightfuneralhome.com.
