    James A. Wilfong, 84, of Fairmont died on Monday (March 2, 2009) at his home.He was born on May 29, 1924 in Thomas, a son of the late Walter R. Wilfong and Minnie Phillips Wilfong. James proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the 201st National Guard. He retired from Alcan Aluminum after 44 years of service. James was a member of the VFW and the Korean War Veterans. He enjoyed reading, building model cars, planes and trains. He collected books and especially enjoyed his train books. James loved dogs and cats and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. James is survived by his wife of 48 years Margaret Alberta Poling Wilfong; his sons James H. Wilfong and his wife Kathy of Crestview, Fla., Raymond C. Wilfong and his wife Sandy of Vine Grove, Ky., Virgil L. Wilfong of Fairmont, Walter D. Wilfong and his wife Annette of Fairmont and Thomas A. Wilfong and his fiancé Deana Custer; his daughters Dorothy A. Hoffman and her husband Clifford (Pooch) of Fairmont, Deborah K. Mafield and her husband Chuck of Fairmont, Nancy L. Interment will immediately follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by West Virginia National Guard at Camp Dawson. Serving as pallbearers will be James’ grandsons Jimmy Wilfong, Jason Mafield, Mark Wilfong, Tommy Wilfong, Jr., Jarrett Hoffman and James Wilfong.     Mr. Wilfong was born Feb. 10, 1912, in Sugar Grove, W.Va., and was the son of the late Emory and Elva Puffenbarger Wilfong.
    He was a self-employed builder, a farmer and in later years, he helped Elmer Snyder survey land. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, where he was an 842 aviation engineer corporal medical assistant.
    Mr. Wilfong was a charter member of the South Fork Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the American Legion and Sugar Grove Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9666. He was a member of St. Michael?s Lutheran Church.
    Surviving are his wife, Geneva Swadley Wilfong, whom he married March 21, 1944; a son, Bernard Dale Wilfong, and a daughter, Patricia Ann Bodkin, both of Brandywine, W.Va.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
    Pastors Harold Cullers, Mark Bowser and Randy Cosner will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, W.Va. Burial will be at St. Michael?s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Sugar Grove W.Va., with military rites by the Pendleton County Veteran?s Honor Guard.

  1. [S1666] Obit: Carolyn "Kay" Wilfong, Carolyn “Kay” Wilfong, 66, of Bartow, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
    Born May 10, 1941, at Hinton, she was a daughter of the late Lamer and Rose Bell McCall Biggs.
    Kay was a homemaker and was a member of Calvary Gospel Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Petrey and Louise Broyles.
    Survivors include her husband, James F. Wilfong; two daughters, Donna Rexrode of Durbin and Barbara Friel of Marlinton; two sons, Mike Wilfong and Danny Wilfong, both of Fredericksburg, Va.; one sister Geraldine Carr of Buckeye; one brother, Ira Lacy Biggs of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold Swecker officiating. Interment will follow in Arbovale Cemetery.
