He was raised and educated in Buckeye and, at the age of 20, moved to Kalama, Wash.
He married Maxine Marie Pearsall Dec. 27, 1938.
The couple made their home in Kalama where Mr. Wilfong worked as a Teamster truck driver and later owned a gas station, Ruby's Texaco.
In the late 1950s the family moved to a small farm in Grants Pass. Mr. Wilfong worked as a logger, retiring around 1965.
In 1981, the couple moved to Brookings.
Mr. Wilfong was an honest and generous person with traditional values who believed in taking care of his family, they said.
Together, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfong raised four children and four grandchildren. They were known to be "hands-on" grandparents, playing an active role in all of their grandchildren's lives, including keeping them most summers and teaching them to fish.
Mr. Wilfong enjoyed building birdhouses, going to garage sales, and had an on-going sale of his own.
Survivors include son Richard Paul of Longview, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law Sandra and Murry Carter of Lady Lake, Fla., Susie and Charles Chambers of Bend; brothers Earl Wilfong of Eureka, Calif., Jack Wilfong and wife Beverly of Longview.
