I am Jocelyn Teets Masemer, the daughter of Leland Combs Teets. My brother Daniel Lee Teets emailed you about the misspelling of our father's middle name. I found the Teets site quite by accident at work this past week while testing the Google search site for a client. I work in the IT department of a large hospital group in northern Virginia. My Dad and his wife are both still living - Leland Combs (we can see how the misspelling occurred - the handwriting on Dad's birth certificate is not so great, but I assure you that his middle name is Combs) Teets and Lynette Swain Teets & reside in White Post, Virginia. I also live in White Post, Virginia with my husband, Gerald Sherman Masemer. Gerald and I have 5 children in our combined marriages. We have two grandchildren.
Dan and I also have and older brother, Kevin Combs Teets. We have not had contact with him in three years.
Daniel Lee Teets and his wife, Michelle Newton Teets live in Haddock, Georgia. They have no children at this time.
My birth date is November 15, 1959 (formerly Jocelyn Gay Teets) (married twice, divorced once) Former name was Jocelyn Teets White - first husband was Frederick Elias White, III - we have one daughter, Joni Lynette White, born March 3rd, 1980. Joni lives in Winchester, VA. with her fiancé Michael Keith Persinger, II(born December 6, 1979) and their son, Michael Keith Persinger, III (born December 25, 2003) .
My Husband, Gerald Masemer's birth day is May 26, 1945. He has two children from his first marriage to Peggy Lee Ritter.. Their names are Tina Lee (Masemer) Mauck (born January 23, 196? - not sure of the year, I don't have my documents in front of me...this is coming off the top of my head) and Shawn Allen Masemer (born December 17, 1970).
Gerald and I have two children in our marriage, Jacob Andrew Masemer (born July 22, 1983) and Amanda Virginia Masemer (born October 5, 1984). Imagine my surprise in finding out that we were descendants of Jacob Teets! I loved the name Jacob and when our son was born I just chose that name. I never met my father in law, but found out that his name was Jacob, too! I guess a "little bird" was telling me to carry on the family name!
I have wanted to know of my background for a long time and have no idea why I chose the Teets surname as my test for Google the other day but I can assure you that I was spellbound by all the information that I found - the site is incredible. I now know what our family Coat of Arms looks like and I saw the picture of Jacob Teets and his wife. All I could do was stare! I am mesmerized by that site! What an excellent history!

My sister-in law sent you an email back in April, also attached, I married Daniel Lee Teets, not Kevin Combs Teets. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to come home and show everyone (I have dial-up access here) and when I was ALMOST at the house, I saw that we had power poles downs and for the that afternoon and night, I had no internet access. Of course I couldn't get enough information to load on my Blackberry! This is really so exciting - I even saw that there was another Leland Teets. I have my original birth certificate here along with our children's...I saw my Grand Dad Robert W. Teets' picture as a younger man. It was really neat because I was very young when he passed in 1967. I knew I had the right Robert Teets when I saw the listing of my aunts and uncles. It's like having a huge door open for me. I also saw my grandfather's enlistment papers and his marriage certificate.
As I sit here and think....I forgot to include my other grandson Nicholas Mauck (Perhaps that is because he spent the night with us last night and wore me out today!) He is the son of Tina Masemer Mauck and Dennis Mauck. His birthday is January 11, 2001. I am amazed that this info is stored in the gray matter of my head.
I will see what else I can come up with to send to you. I have a lot of individual photos - I will try to do some group shots when the family gathers for Christmas. Dan and Michelle will come to Virginia and spend a week with Mom and Dad and I just live 5 miles 'down the road" from them.

Dorothy Lee Sowder, age 85, of Buckhannon, WV, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born July 7, 1922 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late William L. and Bessie Jane Corathers Dowell. On July 7, 1944 at the Ft. Myers Chapel in Arlington, VA she married Robert Lee Sowder who preceded her in death on September 14, 1991. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael R. Ashley; three brothers, Meyers, Page and Keith Dowell and one sister, Nora Smith. She is survived by one son, Robert Lee Sowder, II of Buckhannon; one daughter, Roberta Ann Ashley and husband Mike of Woodstock, IL; one grandson, John Ashley and wife Kathryn of New York, NY; two brothers, Howard Dowell and James Dowell both of Buckhannon; one sister, Kathryn Goldsmith of Salem, WV and many nieces and nephews. At the time of her retirement Mrs. Sowder was a secretary for Fairfax County School Systems in Virginia. Friends will be received Saturday, November 10, 2007 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bradley Tenney officiating. Burial will follow in the Reger Chapel Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local American Diabetes Association in Dorothy’s memory. She is survived by one son, Robert Lee Sowder, II of Buckhannon; one daughter, Roberta Ann Ashley and husband Mike of Woodstock, IL; one grandson, John Ashley and wife Kathryn of New York, NY; two brothers, Howard Dowell and James Dowell both of Buckhannon; one sister, Kathryn Goldsmith of Salem, WV and many nieces and nephews. At the time of her retirement Mrs. Sowder was a secretary for Fairfax County School Systems in Virginia. Friends will be received Saturday, November 10, 2007 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev.
