DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. - Duane Arlen Gross, 73, of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., passed away Saturday afternoon, May 26, 2007, at Volusia Flagler Hospice Center, Port Orange, Fla. He was born March 24, 1934, in Fairmont, W.Va., son of the late Kenneth Gross and Viola Dent Ammons.
Mr. Gross was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Port Orange. He attended Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, when in the area. He was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, Va.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, with 20 years of service. He was active in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring in 1972.
He also retired from Potomac Electrical Power Co., Washington, D.C., in 1999, as a shift foreman of operations, with 25 years of service.
He earlier was active with the Red Cross in Maryland, with 10 years of service.
Living the past eight years in Florida, he was very active with the Episcopal Food Bank, Port Orange; and, he was a certified long term health care provider, working for the Ombudsman Program of Volusia and Flagler, Fla. Counties.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Stansberry Gross of Daytona Beach, Fla., married 53 years; one daughter, Beth Ann Easterday of Sharpsburg, Md.; one son, Bruce Wayne and his wife, Caryl Gross, of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; one brother and his wife, Chester and Sandy Gross of Fairmont; one sister, Nancy Ann Campbell of Canton, Ga.; three stepsisters and their husbands, Charlotte and Louis Fleming of Houston, Barbara and Richard Clevenger of Fairmont, and Nancy and Robert Phillips of Arnettsville Community, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Coe of Fairmont and Alma Stansberry of Richmond, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Fantacy Gross of Penole, Calif., Christy Gross of Hagerstown, Md., Charles Gross of Hagerstown, Stacy Easterday of Sharpsburg, Nolan Gross of Sharpsburg, Taylor Gross of Chesapeake Beach, Laurel Gross of Chesapeake Beach, Adam Gross of Chesapeake Beach, Brandon Gross of Cordele, Ga. and Hala Gross of Cordele; one stepgranddaughter, Miranda Greene of Cordele; one great-grandson, Brayden Duane Ord of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Barry Scott Gross, who died in 2006.
Friends may call the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Rockwood officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah Cemetery in Monongalia County, W.Va. The Marion County Military Veterans will observe full military honors at the graveside.

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. - Duane Arlen Gross, 73, of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., passed away Saturday afternoon, May 26, 2007, at Volusia Flagler Hospice Center, Port Orange, Fla. He was born March 24, 1934, in Fairmont, W.Va., son of the late Kenneth Gross and Viola Dent Ammons.
Mr. Gross was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Port Orange. He attended Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, when in the area. He was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, Va.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, with 20 years of service. He was active in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring in 1972.
He also retired from Potomac Electrical Power Co., Washington, D.C., in 1999, as a shift foreman of operations, with 25 years of service.
He earlier was active with the Red Cross in Maryland, with 10 years of service.
Living the past eight years in Florida, he was very active with the Episcopal Food Bank, Port Orange; and, he was a certified long term health care provider, working for the Ombudsman Program of Volusia and Flagler, Fla. Counties.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Stansberry Gross of Daytona Beach, Fla., married 53 years; one daughter, Beth Ann Easterday of Sharpsburg, Md.; one son, Bruce Wayne and his wife, Caryl Gross, of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; one brother and his wife, Chester and Sandy Gross of Fairmont; one sister, Nancy Ann Campbell of Canton, Ga.; three stepsisters and their husbands, Charlotte and Louis Fleming of Houston, Barbara and Richard Clevenger of Fairmont, and Nancy and Robert Phillips of Arnettsville Community, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Coe of Fairmont and Alma Stansberry of Richmond, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Fantacy Gross of Penole, Calif., Christy Gross of Hagerstown, Md., Charles Gross of Hagerstown, Stacy Easterday of Sharpsburg, Nolan Gross of Sharpsburg, Taylor Gross of Chesapeake Beach, Laurel Gross of Chesapeake Beach, Adam Gross of Chesapeake Beach, Brandon Gross of Cordele, Ga. and Hala Gross of Cordele; one stepgranddaughter, Miranda Greene of Cordele; one great-grandson, Brayden Duane Ord of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. - Duane Arlen Gross, 73, of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., passed away Saturday afternoon, May 26, 2007, at Volusia Flagler Hospice Center, Port Orange, Fla. He was born March 24, 1934, in Fairmont, W.Va., son of the late Kenneth Gross and Viola Dent Ammons.
Mr. Gross was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Port Orange. He attended Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, when in the area. He was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, Va.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, with 20 years of service. He was active in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring in 1972.
He also retired from Potomac Electrical Power Co., Washington, D.C., in 1999, as a shift foreman of operations, with 25 years of service.
He earlier was active with the Red Cross in Maryland, with 10 years of service.
Living the past eight years in Florida, he was very active with the Episcopal Food Bank, Port Orange; and, he was a certified long term health care provider, working for the Ombudsman Program of Volusia and Flagler, Fla. Counties.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Stansberry Gross of Daytona Beach, Fla., married 53 years; one daughter, Beth Ann Easterday of Sharpsburg, Md.; one son, Bruce Wayne and his wife, Caryl Gross, of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; one brother and his wife, Chester and Sandy Gross of Fairmont; one sister, Nancy Ann Campbell of Canton, Ga.; three stepsisters and their husbands, Charlotte and Louis Fleming of Houston, Barbara and Richard Clevenger of Fairmont, and Nancy and Robert Phillips of Arnettsville Community, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Coe of Fairmont and Alma Stansberry of Richmond, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Fantacy Gross of Penole, Calif., Christy Gross of Hagerstown, Md., Charles Gross of Hagerstown, Stacy Easterday of Sharpsburg, Nolan Gross of Sharpsburg, Taylor Gross of Chesapeake Beach, Laurel Gross of Chesapeake Beach, Adam Gross of Chesapeake Beach, Brandon Gross of Cordele, Ga. and Hala Gross of Cordele; one stepgranddaughter, Miranda Greene of Cordele; one great-grandson, Brayden Duane Ord of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born at Little Falls on Jan. 19, 1920, a son of the late George Barrett and Willa Miller Stansberry.
Mr. Stansberry retired in 1982 from Alcan aluminum in Fairmont, with 40 years of service as a crane operator. He was a member of the Alcan retirees group.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He had also worked with the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corps.
He was a member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church. Prior to his illness, he and his wife were active in several senior citizens organizations including Smithtown, Halleck and Monongalia County Senior Citizens. He enjoyed being outdoors and fishing. He most enjoyed meeting his friends at McDonalds.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Lightner Stansberry; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Patty Stansberry, of Vienna; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Carl Moser, of Annapolis, Md., and Shirley and Dan Brown, of Fairmont: a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Lee Stansberry, of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kari and Jeff Price, of Glen Burnie, Md., Dr. Kolen Brown, of Morgantown, Jason and Shannon Moser, of Tallahassee, Fla., Shaylynn Stansberry, of Vienna and Sydney Stansberry, of Vienna; two great-grandchildren, Melissa Price and Jeffrey Price II, of Glen Burnie; and several nieces and nephews.
