Alpha Teats, a farmer of Industry township, was born March 3, 1831, in Preston county, West Virginia. His parents were Adam and Elizabeth (Moser) Teats, who were likewise natives of West Virginia. His father was born in 1790, and his mother July 13, 1793. Their marriage occurred in 1813, and the former died in 1865, the latter in 1869. Alpha was brought up on a farm and received his education as opportunity offered in the common schools, working hard during the summer months on the farm. He remained with his parents, engaged in the various duties incident to farm life, until 22 years old, and then worked out by the month for about three years. He then came west, and first lived with Nathaniel Scott, in Chalmers township, of this county, about two years, working by the month. Subsequently he worked for other parties until 1860. Upon the 6th day of March, of that year, he was married to Mary Vail, daughter of John Vail, of Industry township. By that union were five children—Lucinda, born August 1, 1861; Adaline, born July 16, 1864; Nancy L., born September 24, 1865; John E., born January 23, 1868, and died August 21, 1869, and Bertha S., born January 18, 1877. Mr. Teats is now engaged in general farming, and owns a farm on section 8, Industry township, which is fairly well improved. Himself and wife are members of the Christian church. Politically, he has always been a democrat.

John,
what a great website. you have done a great job in your research and documentation. i am a beginner genealogist. but i know that there are alot of people out there exchanging info with no documentation, sources or proof of any kind.
i started out researching the shrader's. i am virginia icy teets grandaughter and steward edward shrader's daughter. i have only a couple pic's that i have scanned but will dig around for more. there is only one of virginia's children left, my aunt jackie. i am going to write her and pick her brains. grandma has been gone 11 years. but i do know that she had one brother, willard and two sisters, dolly and hazel. i have not had any luck trying to track them down though even though i remember visiting willard in wv when i was a small child.
well, enough rambling. how are you connected to john edward"ed" or are you from another branch of the family? if you dont mind giving me your home address, i can send some copies of documents i have for my family. (it's easier than scanning it all and you can pick and choose what you want to scan on your own)
thanks "cousin" !
have a good one,
teri

Obituary, www.legacy.com
Teets, Joseph "Joe" Theodore
81, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 26th, 2012. His quiet strength will be greatly missed, but comfort is found in knowing that he has begun a new life with the Lord. Born in Terra Alta, West Virginia on December 6th, 1930 to Theodore and Margaret Teets, Joe grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his three younger sisters: Ruth, Rose Ann "Cookie", and Margaret "Peggy Lou". After graduating from Wilkinsburg High School, he joined the United States Navy in 1952, and would often think fondly of his days working on the USS Yosemite during the Korean War before discharging from the Navy in 1955. Joe married Claire Johnson in Rhode Island in 1953, with whom he had eight children: Marilyn, Deborah, Joseph, Diane, Paul, Sarah, Thomas, and Brian. After the Navy, Joe began his life-long career in the newspaper business as a stereotyper by working for the Providence Journal for many years. He then moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1972 and began working for the Florida Times-Union newspaper. While living in Jacksonville, Joe met and married Judith "Judy" Busey in 1976. The early years of their marriage brought many adventures, with moves throughout the Midwest as the rapidly changing newspaper industry sent Joe and Judy from Florida, Texas, and Nebraska to Michigan and Illinois. Soon after moving to Chicago, Joe and Judy welcomed their only child into the world when Sarah Belle was born in 1980. In 1983 they moved to Phoenix, Arizona where Joe worked for the Arizona Republic until he retired in 1997. The last few years of Joe's life were full of relaxation and contentment, as he enjoyed attending Catholic Mass regularly, visiting with his buddies at the American Legion, going to the gym, and working in his beloved backyard garden. Joe was often admired for his lovely garden of grapefruit trees, beautiful rose bushes, holly hocks, delicious vegetables, sunflowers, and the best homegrown tomatoes in the Sonoran desert. The patient love and joy he expressed through his work in the garden will live on in our hearts forever. Joe is preceded in death by his father Theodore, his mother Margaret, and his daughter Deborah. He is survived by his wife Judy, his eight children, 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, his 3 sisters, his Aunt Louise, and Uncle Paul. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 7655 East Main Street, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85251. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Joe's honor to Good Samaritan Society's Mesa Good Shepherd, 5848 East University Drive Mesa, AZ 85205. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.

Hi John:
I am the great granddaughter of Cain Wilfong. I wanted to give you a few corrections.
Ellen Tenney was the mother of all of Cain's children. She died on August 13, 1921. Their last child was Myrtle, who was born on March 27, 1920. His second wife was Mary Katherine Fitzgerald (aka Mollie). She was previously married to Forrest Dowell Sandy on May 21, 1900.
Cain and Mollie had no children.
You have a nice site. Hope this is of some interest to you. I have some Wilfong pictures on my family page:
