Scarbro - Myles "Pete" Johnson, 84, of Scarbro, passed away Sunday,
September 5, 2004 at his home following a short illness.
Born September 14, 1919 at Page, he was the son of the late Hubert Wirt and
Jennie Bonome Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A., and he served in
the United States Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gretna Wriston Johnson; and two
sisters and one brother.
Survivors include his four sons, Grover Johnson and wife June of Scarbro,
Allen Johnson of Charlottesville, Va., Tom Johnson and wife JoAnn of
Norfolk, Va., and Butch Johnson and wife Judy of Oak Hill; two daughters,
Kay Cox and husband Calvin of Hinton and Susie Johnson and companion Kenny
of Scarbro; a daughter-in-law, Jane Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; three
brothers, Robert Johnson of Tennessee, Douglass Johnson of Michigan, and
Braden Johnson of Churchill, Tenn.; one sister, Betty Lawhorn of Oak Hill;
17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill
with the Rev. Bill Menefee officiating.
Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.

NEWTON FALLS ? Ovid Martin Booth, 479 Ridge Road, Newton Falls, passed to eternal life on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, in the emergency room at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

In Upshur County, Buckhannon, W.Va., Jan. 25, 1919, Ovid was born the son of Gay and Ocie Pearl Dean Booth.

WIth the passing of his grandfather, Ovid came to the aid of his grandmother to work on the family farm. He was quite young but determined to help as much as possible.

Ovid continued working on the farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army July 3, 1941, with one of the first groups to be drafted out of West Virginia. During World War II, he was stationed for four years in Liverpool, England, and on Oct. 6, 1945, he was honorably discharged.

Upon his returning to civilian life, he returned to West Virginia. A friendship between Ovid M. Booth and Doris E. Harris grew, and on Nov. 28, 1946, they were united in marriage. The family later relocated to this area in 1955, residing in Niles.

He obtained employment at Republic Steel as an inspector, retiring after 28 1/2 years from the newly formed LTV Steel.

Ovid was a member of the First Baptist Church of Howland. He was often visited by Delmar and Harold, who were members of the church?s Shut-In Program. These visits were of special significance to Ovid.

He was very active and enjoyed numerous pastimes. Ovid spent many hours with his son. The activities they enjoyed together were target shooting, hunting, riding motorcycles and working on the muscle cars owned by his son. With his handle as ??Moonshiner,?? he stayed connected to his fellow CBers.

From an early age, Ovid was a skilled horseman. In later years, he often rode with the Cowboys for Christ in local parades. He continued to ride until the age of 84.

Loving memories of Ovid will be carried on by his caring family, his son and daughter-in-law, Roger M. and Deanna Booth of Warren; his adored grandchildren, Jaime, Monica, Kenny and Randy; his beloved great-grandchildren, Anthony, Ian, Matthew, Dustin, Kassondra, Jacob, Seth and Kenny; his brother, Winford Champ; and his sisters, Virginia Landis and Madaline Robinson, all of West Virginia.

Preceding Ovid were his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls. Military honors will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. To honor Ovid?s life, a service will be 5 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Howland, with Pastor Jerry Croyts officiating.

The family requests that tributes be made in Ovid?s memory to the Shut-In Program of First Baptist Church of Howland, 8957 E. Market St., Warren 44484.

In Upshur County, Buckhannon, W.Va., Jan. 25, 1919, Ovid was born the son of Gay and Ocie Pearl Dean Booth.

WIth the passing of his grandfather, Ovid came to the aid of his grandmother to work on the family farm. He was quite young but determined to help as much as possible.

Ovid continued working on the farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army July 3, 1941, with one of the first groups to be drafted out of West Virginia. During World War II, he was stationed for four years in Liverpool, England, and on Oct. 6, 1945, he was honorably discharged.

Upon his returning to civilian life, he returned to West Virginia. A friendship between Ovid M. Booth and Doris E. Harris grew, and on Nov. 28, 1946, they were united in marriage. The family later relocated to this area in 1955, residing in Niles.

He obtained employment at Republic Steel as an inspector, retiring after 28 1/2 years from the newly formed LTV Steel.

Ovid was a member of the First Baptist Church of Howland. He was often visited by Delmar and Harold, who were members of the church?s Shut-In Program. These visits were of special significance to Ovid.

He was very active and enjoyed numerous pastimes. Ovid spent many hours with his son. The activities they enjoyed together were target shooting, hunting, riding motorcycles and working on the muscle cars owned by his son. With his handle as ??Moonshiner,?? he stayed connected to his fellow CBers.

From an early age, Ovid was a skilled horseman. In later years, he often rode with the Cowboys for Christ in local parades. He continued to ride until the age of 84.

Loving memories of Ovid will be carried on by his caring family, his son and daughter-in-law, Roger M. and Deanna Booth of Warren; his adored grandchildren, Jaime, Monica, Kenny and Randy; his beloved great-grandchildren, Anthony, Ian, Matthew, Dustin, Kassondra, Jacob, Seth and Kenny; his brother, Winford Champ; and his sisters, Virginia Landis and Madaline Robinson, all of West Virginia.

Preceding Ovid were his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls. Military honors will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. To honor Ovid?s life, a service will be 5 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Howland, with Pastor Jerry Croyts officiating.

The family requests that tributes be made in Ovid?s memory to the Shut-In Program of First Baptist Church of Howland, 8957 E. Market St., Warren 44484.

Paul J. Booth, 89, of North Pike Street, Grafton, passed away Oct. 1, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Ellamore, a son of the late Homer O. Booth and Lela M. (Davis) Booth.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Juanita B. (Demoss) Booth; two brothers, Wayne Booth and wife, Jo Booth, of Calabash, N.C., and Richard D. Booth and wife, Betty Booth, of Buckhannon; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Booth served in the U.S. Marie Corps from 1942 to 1945 and he was an accountant for the Monongahela Power Company in Fairmont for 18 years. He was a life member of the VFW Memorial City Post 3081 and served as their former Commander and District Commander. He attended the Blueville United Methodist Church in Grafton.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Sunday, Oct. 4 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jeffrey N. Winter officiating.Interment will follow at the Bluemont Cemetery in Grafton.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the VFW Memorial City Post 3081, Taylor County Post 12 American Legion and the D.A.V. Chapter 24 and their auxiliaries.
