    Virginia Teets Bunnell
    On March 10, 2004 Virginia Teets Bunnell passed away of natural causes at Capitol Care Center of Boise. Virginia was born on Dec. 23, 1912 in the coal mining region of West Virginia. She was the middle child of four brothers and three sisters born of her parents, George and Betty Rowan. She left school at too early an age due to the death of her father in a mining accident. In 1935 she met and later married Edward Teets and together they had two sons, Edward and Ronald. The family lived, worked and attended schools in West Virginia. Virginia watched both sons join the military and enjoyed the many gifts from around the world. Virginia later married Stonewall Bunnell and together they began a life in Cocoa, Fla., where she worked at Cocoa's landmark restaurant called Merts, famous for its breakfast menu. Virginia loved the beach, especially early in the morning when she could explore all that had been washed ashore during the night. Her seashell collection numbered in the thousands, some as old as time. Virginia lived across the river from the cape and was able to watch the shuttle program from the first unmanned launches through the mid 1990s. Virginia leaves behind two sons, Edward and Ronald, and their wives, Alicia and Nun Hui. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Martha Hammer and family, Ronald and Brian Teets, all of Georgia; Eddie Teets and family of Boise, Michael Teets and family of Seattle, and Son Hui Teets, a student at Boise State University. Also losing a great-grandmother are Brittney Hammer, Zachari Teets (Follett), Kieron and Eddie IV Teets, Nigel and Olivia Teets. With the passing of Virginia, the sun will not seem as bright, the summer days not as warm and the sparkle in one's eyes not as cheerful. Good night Mom. The Teets family would like to thank the staff of Capitol Care Center for making our loved one as happy and comfortable as possible during her stay there. Thank you, your work was not unseen. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 15 at the Dry Creek Cemetery. Friends may call to visit with the family on Sunday, March 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel.

     Samuel Andrew Teets was born on 18 May 1831 in Virginia.2,3,4,5,6,7,8 He was the son of Andrew Teets and Catherine J. "Katy" Ringer.1 Samuel Andrew Teets married Catherine Hardin Van Sickle, daughter of David Van Sickle and Catherine Hardin, on 15 September 1851.9,10 Samuel Andrew Teets died on 5 September 1906 in Lake Ford Farm, Maryland, at age 75.11,12,3 He was buried after 5 September 1906 in Garrett, Maryland.13
      Samuel Andrew Teets was also known as Samuel A. Teats.7 As were most of our ancestors, Samuel Andrew teets was a farmer. He also had a saw mill near Browning Dam. He lived near Hazleton, moving to the Lake Ford area prior to the birth of his youngest son in 1868. The land he owned was on both sides of the state line. He built a log house that stood on the North of the present house near the Lake Ford Church. Samuel and Catherine woulde speak Dutch but would not permit their children to learn the language. They felt that the children needed to speak only English.14

     Andrew Teets was born in 1793; he appeared many times between 1823 and 1849 in the Preston County Tax Records (Preston was formed in 1818). His father Henry and several of his brothers also appeared in these records (see Teets in Tax Records).

Andrew appears in every census between 1830 and 1860, all in Preston County. In the 1800 and 1810 census records, it appears that he was born between 1795-1799. Yet in the 1830 census he appears to be born between 1800-1810. In 1840 his age is stated to be between 40-50 (1790-1800). 1850 his age is stated as 55 (birth c1795). In 1860, his age is stated as 60 (birth c1800). In 1870, in Allegany County, Maryland, he is living with his grandson Lucian, next to his son George W., and he and wife Catherine are stated to be 77 and 75, respectively. That census suggests a birth date of c1793. So, with these sources, the author chose a best estimate birth date of 1793; his birth location remains unknown.6,1,2,3,4 He was the son of Henry Teets and Mary (?).5 Andrew Teets married Catherine J. "Katy" Ringer circa 1823. Andrew Teets died after 1870.4
      Andrew Teets was also known as Henry Teats.2 Andrew and Catherine owned land in both Preston County, West Virginia and Garrett County, Maryland, although they lived most of the time in Preston County. Oddly, they are shown in both counties in the 1870 census. Apparently they were visiting or living with their grandson Lucien (son of George W.) that summer, but were back in their own home in Preston County by September. Their daughter Ana Eliza lived with her parents until their death, then she lived with Samuel Andrew.7

He was probably one of the (an unknown value) males under age 10 listed in the household of his father, Henry Teats, in the 1800 Federal Census of Sandy Creek, Allegany, Maryland.8

     Sarah Jane Teets was born circa 1779; her death record gives her age as 80 in 1859. Also, in the 1800 census for Allegany MD, the second oldest female in the household of Henry is between 16-25 years, which appears to be Sarah Jane. She may or may not have been born there. Henry moved his family to Monongalia County (later Preston County) between 1800 and 1802, where he first appears in the Tax Records. In the 1810 Monongalia census she is between 26 and 45. The combination of the 1800 and 1810 census records and the Tax Records appear to fit well with her given age shown in her death record in 1859. So c1779 was chosen as her birth date, but her birth location is unknown.1,3,4,5 She was the daughter of Henry Teets and Mary (?).2 Sarah Jane Teets married Samuel Wolf.6,7 Sarah Jane Teets died on 30 June 1859 in Bird's Creek, Preston, West Virginia.7
     She was probably the female age 16 to 26 listed in the household of her father, Henry Teats, in the 1800 Federal Census of Sandy Creek, Allegany, Maryland.3
